The Pacific coast of Nicaragua in its wildest state

From January to April and July to September, humpback whales, spotted dolphins and bottlenose dolphins can be seen along the Pacific coast of Nicaragua. The scientific section of the ELIS-S Association was created in 2016. Their research project« Cetacean Conservation in Nicaragua » aims not only to research and protect cetaceans, but also to bring environmental values to local communities by setting up educational and fun activities, particularly for children and fishermen. A good example is the collection of garbage on the surrounding beaches.

Hear whale song: an unforgettable emotion

Here is an excursion that will make a lasting impression. Let’s join Sandrine, a member of the Terra Nicaragua team, on a field reconnaissance trip on the Elis association boat. She tells us: « As soon as we arrived at the first observation point, a whale showed us all its power by leaping several meters into the air –what a spectacular sight!

We were also able to observe four whale tails, dolphins and listen to the whales singing , thanks to the scientists’ state-of-the-art equipment, a unique moment!

After 4 hours of observation, it was time for the whole team to return to port, a magnificent sunset accompanying the boat on the way back. The experience of a lifetime, a memorable souvenir!
