León and Nicaragua’s North-West

Colonial history, active volcanoes and peaceful Pacific beaches

Located about 90 km north-west of Managua, the León region is one of Nicaragua’s cultural and historical hubs. A former colonial capital, León is home to many baroque churches, museums, and the largest cathedral in Central America, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area also offers direct access to several active volcanoes, such as Cerro Negro (famous for volcano boarding) and Telica, as well as quiet beaches on the Pacific coast, like Las Peñitas and Jiquilillo. It’s ideal for combining history, volcanism, nature and surf in an authentic setting.
