Jour 2 :

Tour of Managua then departure for León

In the morning, visit the capital Managua

Managua, Nicaragua’s vibrant capital, offers a unique blend of culture and history. Explore its bustling markets, historic sites such as the Old Cathedral, and enjoy panoramic views of Lake Managua.

Guided tour of León

Former capital of Nicaragua until 1851, León is a must-see city in the north of the country. Seductive for its colonial style, fascinating for its rich historical and religious past, we invite you to discover this city with a guided tour of its main sights.

You’ll start the tour in the Sutiaba district, then visit the museum of Ruben Dario, the mythical child of Nicaraguan literature. You’ll then take time to discover the imposing cathedral on the Parc Central, and admire the panoramic view from its roof. Finally, the tour ends with a visit to the revolutionary murals.

Jour 3 :

Climb the Cerro Negro volcano!

Hiking on the Cerro Negro volcano.

This morning, your driver will pick you up from your hotel in a 4×4 to take you to the famous Cerro Negro volcano.

Born 150 years ago, Cerro Negro is the most active volcano in Nicaragua, having last erupted in 1999. At an altitude of 725m, it lives up to its name « Black Mountain » and has a lunar appearance. Its surface is covered with black volcanic rock all the way to the summit. Fumaroles and sulphur fumes add to the scenery. You’ll reach the summit from where you’ll be able to observe the crater, then descend either on foot or by sledge, sitting on yoursandboard.

Northern lands, Matagalpa and its coffee plantations

Free time to enjoy the colonial town of Léon, before heading north to the Matagalpa region, renowned for its cool climate and coffee plantations

Matagalpa is a region located in the heart of Nicaragua’s mountains. Known for its cool climate and verdant landscapes, it is often referred to as « the pearl of the north ».

Matagalpa is a major coffee-producing center, with plantations stretching as far as the eye can see. The region is also rich in biodiversity, with lush forests ideal for hikers.

Jour 5 :

Discovery of coffee plantations

Visit to the finca

You’ll visit the heart of the plantations, among the rows of coffee trees: you’ll learn about the varieties grown, the ideal growing conditions and the sustainable farming methods used to preserve the environment.

Depending on the season, you can also witness the harvesting of the coffee cherries by hand, a painstaking task that guarantees the quality of the beans. Then comes the sorting, pulping, fermentation and drying stages, each of which is essential for developing the unique aromas of Matagalpa coffee.

The visit will be adapted according to the season and coffee-related activities.

Jour 6 :

From the Northern Lands to Masaya then Granada

Departure from the Terres du Nord for the colorful town of Granada, witness to Nicaragua’s colonial past. On the way, stop off in Masaya for a stroll through the town: don’t miss the colorful handicrafts market, brimming with everything from scarves and traditional pottery to the hammocks for which the town is famous. Then on to Granada. This dynamic city is the ideal starting point for discovering the region and its many volcanoes, or the islands of Lake Nicaragua. Overnight at your hotel in Granada.

Jour 7 :

Granada: visit the Gran Sultana

Spend the day exploring the city of Granada, one of the jewels of the Spanish colonial empire in Central America, with its emblematic saffron-yellow cathedral. The invasion of the country by William Walker’s mercenaries in the 19th century led to much destruction in the city, but the cathedral was rebuilt after being set on fire, and the city has preserved many colonial houses. Explore the Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve

We recommend that you take advantage of the cool morning to go hiking on the slopes of the Mombacho volcano. Entrance to the volcano park is via the Masaya road, and there are various hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty, with or without a guide. The Mombacho volcano and the Maderas volcano on the island of Ometepe are the only two volcanoes in Nicaragua to have this tropical rainforest, offering a unique diversity of flora and fauna. Afternoon free to enjoy the Laguna de Apoyo, an ancient volcanic crater now filled with fresh water. You can choose to hike, swim or kayak, or simply relax in this enchanting setting. Heading for the island of Ometepe, hiking in Charco Verde

Depart Granada this morning and make your way to the port of San Jorge. Board the ferry for the island of Ometepe and set off on a hike along the Charco Verde lagoon and Lake Nicaragua. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Concepcion volcano, the Maderas volcano, howler monkeys and all kinds of birds. Suggestion: A sunset on the lake We suggest you head for Punta Jesus Maria at the end of the day to admire the sunset over this kilometre-long outcrop of land in the middle of the lake. Strange petroglyphs on the island & relaxation at Ojo de Agua

This morning, set off on a hike around Finca Magdalena, following in the footsteps of the petroglyphs, mysterious imprints left in stone by the Chorotega Indians in many parts of the island over 1500 years ago. To discover the local flora and fauna, you can take a half-day kayak trip through the mangroves from the Istian isthmus. Take advantage of the afternoon heat to discover the Ojo de Agua: a natural pool with transparent thermal waters. Overnight at your hotel on the island of Ometepe.

From Ometepe Island to the Pacific

Drive to the port of Moyogalpa to catch the ferry to San Jorge, and then back to your hotel on the Pacific Ocean, where you can explore the wild beaches of the Pacific coast, sample typical dishes in seaside restaurants, and end the day with a sunset over the magnificent bay of San Juan del Sur. The beaches of San Juan del Sur and the release of baby turtles

Free day to relax in the small fishing town of San Juan del Sur. From here, you can explore the wild beaches of the Pacific coast, sample typical dishes in seaside restaurants and end the day with a sunset in the magnificent bay of San Juan del Sur. At the end of the day, you’ll visit one of the turtle preservation centers, where, depending on the season, baby turtles can be released back into the ocean.
