International airport - Managua
Welcome to Nicaragua!
Your driver will meet you at Managua international airport and take you to your hotel in Managua.
Managua - Granada
Departure from Managua for Gran Sultana, Granada, one of Central America’s most important colonial cities. Founded in 1524, it is the oldest city on the American continent and is still today a true colonial jewel!
Let yourself be lulled by the history and folklore of the place as you stroll through the colorful cobbled streets.
Note: approx. 1h drive.
Granada guided tour
« La Gran Sultana » is a colonial jewel that we suggest you discover on foot. You’ll start this guided tour with the Church of San Francisco, the oldest in town. You’ll finish with the Xalteva Church, the Cathedral and the Central Park. You’ll then cross the central market and its colorful stalls.
Note: Entrance fees included
Visit to a cigar factory.
In Granada, you’ll visit a cigar factory run by a Nicaraguan family. You’ll learn about the different stages tobacco leaves go through to create a cigar. You’ll also learn all the details involved in making the best cigars: how to choose the leaf, work it, then roll it to obtain the perfect cigar.
Overnight in Managua
Mombacho - Apoyo lagoon - Masaya volcano
Tigrillo hike on the Mombacho volcano.
We invite you to discover the wetlands of Volcan Mombacho, overlooking Granada. The volcano is made up of four volcanic craters, with the highest peak reaching 1,345 metres. Meet up at the entrance to Volcan Mombacho and take a 4×4 truck to the easily accessible hiking trails through the only rainforest on Central America’s Pacific coast.
Let’s go for a walk in the heart of this atypical ecosystem along the Trigillo trail!
Guided hike
The hike will take you to various panoramic viewpoints over the isletas, Lake Cocibolca, and also to the highest point of the Mombacho volcano.
Free afternoon to enjoy the Laguna de Apoyo, an ancient volcanic crater now filled with fresh water.
This is a lake formed in the submerged volcanic crater of the now-extinct Volcán de Apoyo, whose floor is 200 metres deep – the lowest point in all of Central America!
The volcano is largely considered dormant, and a thick green forest has developed on its flanks over the years. It’s here that you can take a nature hike to observe toucans, hummingbirds, blue jays, howler and white-faced monkeys and exotic butterflies.
Enjoy a swim, a kayak outing, or simply a nap in a hammock on the edge of this relaxing setting.
Masaya Volcano by night!
At dusk, head to Masaya Volcano National Park to discover the bubbling lava of the Masaya volcano.
With its 54km² and 20km of wilderness trails, Masaya Volcano National Park is a place that will give you another view of what’s going on beneath the earth’s crust. With its five craters, Masaya, called « Popogatepe » by the indigenous Nahuált, is the most accessible active volcano in the world. This experience involves observing the lava lake at the end of the day for a more transcendent contrast.
Return to your hotel.

Scientific outing: listening to whales sing
Scientific observation of whales and dolphins
This morning, we offer you a unique and rewarding opportunity to accompany a marine biologist and his team in search of whales/dolphins and study them in the field.
The team will explain Nicaragua’s cetacean conservation project and discoveries, and introduce you to the exciting world of marine mammal and turtle research.
Important note:
this boat trip is a research trip, not a typical whale-watching excursion. Your participation will help us gather crucial data on whale and dolphin species and determine their critical habitats in Nicaragua. Participants must be comfortable spending 4 hours on a boat, not easily prone to seasickness. Since whales and dolphins are wild animals, we can’t predict or guarantee their presence, but the team of specialists will do their best to increase your chances of seeing them.
Note: 4 hours.
Period: Humpback whales from January to April and July to October / Dolphins all year round
Output subject to climate.
