How our travel experts moved to Nicaragua?

A few years ago, we asked ourselves this question: why not go to Nicaragua? We didn’t find the answer at the time, so we went there just to see.

The result: we’ve now been in this country for six years, and it’s one that has given us so much. By dint of pulling the strings of the Nicaraguan pelota, we’ve become well acquainted with the way things are done here.

A personalised approach when we start building your itinerary

We always start with a call on your personal telephone, not only to get to know you, but also to ask you the question: What do you expect from your trip to Nicaragua? We remember our first visit here very well, when the long-awaited vacation finally arrived.

You’ve just arrived, the ten-hour flight and mandatory stopover en route are just details, as are the entry requirements. With your foot outside and your suitcase behind you, your cab or rental car is waiting. The heat is heavy. And off we go! At last!

The country isn’t very big, but don’t be fooled by the kilometers indicated on maps and apps – the road can be long. From Managua to León, the journey takes less than three hours, and arriving in the capital of the revolution is always impressive, with movement and stalls everywhere. You can then make out the many churches and the imposing white cathedral. It’s hot, but shady spots are easy to find, with typical cafés and restaurants popping up all over the place, colorful and fragrant. A few volcanoes lie dormant in the vicinity of the city, so it makes sense to combine a visit to the city with an excursion to one of them. As a little bonus, the beaches of Las Penitas and Poneloya are not too far away, around twenty minutes, in case you fancy a lazy afternoon by the Pacific.

León, done! Off to the north and the coffee region: Matagalpa. It’s a completely different country, green and steep, cooler too. We’re now close to Honduras, so cut westwards and the Somoto canyon opens up. You have to take the time to wander around, there’s little tourist infrastructure, it’s an adventure, and that’s when Terra Nicaragua pulls out all the stops. We always have a few nuggets to offer. Much further south, for example, the rio San Juan and its nature reserve will delight nature lovers. And for fans of idleness, Nicaragua has a Caribbean coastline, so a trip to the Corn islands may surprise you.

Let’s cross the country, the people are pleasant and very approachable, the landscapes are fabulous, it’s a change of scenery. Stop off in Granada, the great sultana, and stroll along its wide colonial streets. The lake is nearby, so hop aboard a local boat to explore the small islands close to the city. Incredible! Not far away is the Masaya volcano, with its lava that can be seen by all, and the Apoyo lagoon, a small paradise with a crater lake and fresh water. An absolute must-see!

Further south, on the road to Costa Rica, a stopover is necessary at Rivas, at the port of San Jorge, to embark on the elegant island ofOmetepe and its two volcanoes. You’d think you were at the end of the world, alone and isolated, but the island is fantastic to visit – it’s yet another country. For lovers of beautiful beaches, surfing or fishing, you’ll have to get back on the road and descend a little further. Between Rivas and San Juan del Sur, you’ll find countless beaches and superb places to stay. Once again, you can rely on the agency’s extensive address book to create the holiday of your dreams.

As you can see, it’s not easy to answer the first question: why not Nicaragua? Nicaragua is a little-frequented country, with very few tourists, a warm climate that will make you forget the long winter evenings, so many different landscapes, a welcoming people and us, a local and very well-informed incoming agency. Don’t hesitate, we’re waiting for you.
