Jour 1 :

Juan Santamaria Airport

Welcome to Costa Rica!Your driver will meet you at Juan Santamaria international airport near San Jose, at an altitude of 1,150 m in the heart of the Central Valley, to take you to your hotel. Overnight in San Jose

Jour 2 :

San José - Boca Tapada

Pick up your rental car and drive from San José to Boca Tapada. Depart for the northern part of the country, close to the Nicaraguanborder. Arriving in the San Carlos valley, you continue on to Pital. The adventure begins here: you’ll leave the comfort of a tarmac road to take a track to the village of Boca Tapada. Approximate driving time: 3 hours 30 minutes

Boca Tapada

Floating safariYou’ll set off on a canoeing experience on the San Carlos River, where you’ll be able to focus on the surrounding nature and enjoy the relaxing sounds of the surrounding area. You’ll discover waterfowl and other animals on the riverbank in complete tranquility.

Boca Tapada & El Arenal

Drive from Boca Tapada to Arenal and on to the La Fortuna region and the majestic Arena volcano (1,635 m).Approximate driving time: 2 hours.Visit the Asis Foundation & volunteer workYou’ll have the opportunity to explore the reserve with your guide to learn about each animal and its history. You’ll learn why animal conservation is important, how it should be done and what impact you have while having fun with our friendly guides who will engage you and help you think about conservation in a new way. Then you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to prepare food to increase engagement, take food to the animals, create fun and enriching activities for them to improve the animals’ daily routine, which will be the highlight of your visit.Approximate time: 3 and a half hours

Arenal Volcano - Tenorio

Drive fromArenal to Tenorio, heading for the Miravalles (2,028 m) and Tenorio (1,916 m) volcanoes.Approximate driving time: 2 hours.Tenorio National ParkYou’ll explore one of the country’s most beautiful trails through jungle, waterfalls and natural hot springs. You’ll have the opportunity to discover the Rio Celeste, renowned for its unreal turquoise-blue color (which intensifies with the reflection of light rays) due to the minerals in its waters, which contrast with the intense green of the tropical vegetation. 36 km long, the Rio Celeste originates at the meeting point of 2 rivers, crosses hot volcanic springs, sulfur springs, before forming a magnificent waterfall.Approximate time: 2 hours 30.Overnight in a Finca

Tenorio volcano - Liberia

Road from Tenorio to La Cruz.In the morning, departure for Liberia, the capital of Guanacaste. From there, you continue towards the Nicaraguan border and at the village of La Cruz, you take the road heading east towards the lodge.Approximate driving time: 2 hours.Day at leisure to enjoy the region and the excellent local knowledge of your hosts.

Discovering the Solentiname Archipelago

From the small fishing village of San Juan del Sur, your driver will take you to the port of Colon, your embarkation point on Lake Nicaragua.Note: 95 km – 2h00 drive.Los Guatuzos Nature Reserve and Solentiname archipelago.From Colon, transfer by boat to the islands of the Solentiname archipelago.

Check into your hotel on San Fernando Island and take time to visit the island’s small museum and handicrafts cooperative, before enjoying a sumptuous sunset, known as one of Nicaragua’s most beautiful.Note: approx. 1h30 by boat.Overnight at your hotel on the archipelago.

Jour 11 :

Solentiname Archipelago

This morning, you’ll set off for a full day of discovering the Solentiname Islands. You’ll begin your visit on the island of Mancarron, famous for its small church and park, and its museum recounting the history of the archipelago. You’ll move on to the small monkey island and then on to Isla San Fernando and Isla La Venada, famous for its painters and their colourful naive art. Before spending the night in the heart of nature, you’ll enjoy a colorful sunset over these islands. Night in hotel on the Archipelago

Jour 12 :

Sailing to El Castillo

Los Guatuzos nature reserve and Solentiname archipelago. At first light, you’ll set off for the Los Guatuzos reserve, located on the southern shores of Lake Nicaragua on the border with Costa Rica. You’ll spend the morning discovering this 430km² haven of life, cradle of several types of ecosystems.

Accompanied by your guide, you’ll discover incredible flora and fauna on foot and by boat: monkeys, crocodiles, turtles, toucans, iguanas, orchids and trees typical of the primary forest. From the Guatuzos reserve, you’ll travel by boat to the shore of Lake Nicaragua at the port of San Carlos, at the mouth of the Rio San Juan.

Transfer by boat from San Carlos to El Castillo. Arrive at El Castillo, check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.Note: approx. 2 hours by boat.Overnight in an EcoLodge.

Reserva Biologica Indio Maíz

Morning hike in the Indio Maiz nature reserve, guided by your local specialist. This reserve is Nicaragua’s second largest expanse of protected rainforest and, dubbed the Pearl of Central America’s reserves by specialists, is incredibly rich in biodiversity. You’ll be able to observe hundreds of different species of birds, reptiles, mammals and trees.Note: 4-hour excursion with return boat trip.Free afternoon to enjoy the little village of El Castillo, an unusual and timeless place on the banks of the Rio San Juan.

Take a stroll through the narrow streets of the village, meet the locals and perhaps hear the children’s stories of the day. Tower of Caimans at nightfall, on the Rio San Juan

Artisanal chocolate factory:Nestled among the lush vegetation on the banks of the San Juan River, you’ll meet the locals who are dedicated to the artisanal production of chocolate. From the cocoa bean to the precious brown paste, you’ll be able to take home your own natural, bitter, sugar-free cocoa to use in your favorite recipes.Caiman tour.At dusk, around 6:30 pm, you’ ll set sail on the wild waters of the Rio San Juan. Navigation & route to Granada

From the small village of El Castillo, you’ll travel by boat to the town of San Carlos.Note: 2-hour journey.Upon your return to the mainland in San Carlos in the middle of the day, you’ll be met by your driver who will take you to Granada. You’ll pass through several small villages such as Juigalpa, Villa Sandino…land of the sabaneros, the Central American cowboys you’ll meet on their horses. Then you’ll arrive in the beautiful colonial town of Granada.End of the day at leisure.Note: approx. 5-hour drive.Overnight at hotel

Jour 16 :

Visit Granada

free time to explore GranadaWe suggest you discover this colonial jewel on foot or by horse-drawn carriage, visiting the Cathedral, the La Merced church and the Xalteva church, around which the city of Granada was originally built. You can climb the tower of the La Merced church to get a bird’s eye view of the city and the lake from up there. Then, we invite you to immerse yourself in the central market and its colorful stalls. Before continuing your discovery, enjoy tostones con queso in the central square under the shade of the trees. At the end of the morning, you can enjoy a Flor de Caña cocktail on Calle de la Calzada. Jour 17 :

Explore las isletas

A day to discover Las IsletasIn the morning, meet at the Port del Rayo for a day devoted to discovering Las Isletas, an archipelago of islands off the coast of Granada. Around midday, you’ll set off by boat to explore these islets, where today’s Nicaraguans have established their vacation homes.

Nearly 400 of these basaltic islands have been counted, and you’re sure to enjoy excellent views of the proud Mombacho volcano, as well as numerous animal sightings. You’ll reach a private, 100% natural island where the owners have taken great care to preserve this little piece of floating paradise. You can use the kayaks to explore the surrounding area and admire the fauna and flora of this archipelago up close. You’ll appreciate the calm that reigns on and around the island, so close and so far from Granada.

For lunch, you’ll enjoy fresh fish grilled on the barbecue, a guaranteed pleasure. Robinson and Crusoe atmosphere, an opportunity to live like an islander for a day.Note: from 09:00 to 16:00 approx.Return to Granada, Overnight at the hotel.

Pueblos blancos & Volcano Masaya

discover the Pueblos Blancos, the small villages on the outskirts of Masaya, renowned for their handicrafts. From pottery to leather goods and hammocks, the colors of local craftsmanship will fill your eyes! Wander between Catarina and San Juan de Oriente to observe the little stores often set up on the porches of houses. Once in Catarina, you can take in the panoramic view of the Laguna de Apoyo from the belvedere, and walk down the lagoon’s slopes to the El Paso del Tren restaurant, located halfway up.Discover MasayaTake the opportunity to stop off in Masaya to discover this small town with its famous craft market. Continuing eastwards, you’ll pass through the pleasant central Julio Cesar Park and come across many producers of Nicaraguan hammocks, which are then sold all over the country. Then, a few streets further on, you can stroll along the belvedere that borders the Masaya lagoon, with a view of the volcano of the same name. Nearby, you can enjoy the Catarina belvedere, which offers a panoramic view of the Laguna de Apoyo. In this lagoon, you can take a refreshing dip. Discover the impressive Masaya volcano: since the resurgence of volcanic activity and the formation of a new lava lake at the beginning of 2016, access to the Masaya volcano has been strictly regulated. We take you on a nocturnal discovery of this incredible phenomenon. After a 1-hour walk, you’ll arrive at the incredible viewpoint over the lava lake. On your return, you’ll take the hiking trails before returning to your vehicle. Overnight at your hotel.
